THE domestic economy would grow by 5.6 percent only this year owing to the decline in consumer expenditure because of higher taxes and fuel prices, a government think tank said. Josef T. Yap, a senior researcher at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (188体育), said persistent high-fuel prices and higher taxes will dampen consumption expenditures to 5.2 percent from last year鈥檚 5.8 percent.
